Socks might not change the world, but they can certainly make people smile. Founded by Dan Zell in 2014, The London Sock Exchange has been on a mission to do just that. This independent British design studio specialises in making fun, fairly priced socks with sustainability at heart.
Everything is dreamed up in-house, then crafted in partnership with like-minded manufacturers who knit each sock on 200 needles for a finer, stronger finish, and hand-finish for a seamless fit. Whether it’s a single pair, a gift box, or the popular subscription service, The London Sock Exchange promises never to cut corners. They’re always ready to chat with anyone wanting to learn more—or simply say hello.
Put a sock in it: How Not Studio launched The London Sock Exchange with a custom Shopify website
Not Studio was approached to create a fresh digital home for The London Sock Exchange, a vibrant, cheeky sock brand with a modern edge. Keen to showcase their playful side while keeping the look contemporary, Not Studio designed an e-commerce experience that fits The London Sock Exchange’s sense of humour and that would stand the test of time.
The London Sock Exchange is known for exclusive collaborations, with partners like the UK Underground and even James Bond, as well as themed collections that celebrate the label’s status as the go-to for “dad socks” done right.
As Shopify experts, Not Studio chose to build the site on Shopify’s e-commerce platform. Shopify is ideal for everyone from fashion start-ups to major international brands, thanks to its ability to scale with multi-language and multi-currency features. By incorporating custom code, each new site can be tailored to meet the unique needs of the client.
The entire website design process took around 12 weeks. It started with a discovery meeting to clarify Dan and his team’s vision, then moved on to detailed wireframes that demonstrated the site’s UX, user experience.
